Support for SDP has been dropped.
Beamreactor | 2010-03-22 | 00:04:36

A lot of water has flowed under the bridges since our first release of the Simple Data Processing (SDP) engine.

Its internal data handling format has been deprecated in 2007, and it is now time for us to cease support for SDP handled websites, nearly 7 years after its launch (may 2003). We also highly discourage its use for any modern website building, for both the threats and technology has greatly evolved.

SDP and security

Along all these years of SDP engine development, only 2 serious security issues have been found, and this can be considered a success. However, the current evolutions of PHP, MySQL and Apache made it worthless for us to carry on with the maintainance of this already outdated software.

Even if no critical issue arised recently towards SDP, do NOT rely on it. It is unsafe and won't be covered by the warranty. Furthermore, we strongly urge our resellers to upgrade to the XDP engine, that is not only up to date but copes better with both the technology, the compatibility needs (XML, CSV compatibility layers) and the planned software evolutions, would it be in house or protocolar, such as HTML5 support (feel free to ask us for the upgrade packs prices and conditions).

We would like to thank all the SDP customers that sticked with us during all those years for their fidelity and confidence.

A new aspect for Beamreactor

That's it. A brand new BR engine for you all to play with!

The menu, some more optimizations, even tastier security features, cleaned up databases!

It made a while we've been this excited here as this release is the first significant in years. It's not about fixing a bug or adding a feature, but more of a revolution as the security structure has been totally redone.

However invisible for you, it means that fiddling with BR will be ways harder, and in the current socio-political context it is an obvious necessity. Every day more the threat of digital wars gets more precise¹ , with companies such as McAfee issuing daily reports² towards the cost of data loss or worst, state related information.

Your company, and ours, should be able to maintain their online activity at all costs, this is why this investment in revamped security systems is important.

A little note towards recent technological evolutions:

Now that the decision has been made to drop HTML support for outdated or simplistic operating systems, a lot of our plugins are being converted to full CSS support. A wise decision, especially considering the recent HTML5 implementations that would make the migration necessary nonetheless.

The last few months have been quite hectic with respect to this migration for some of you had to convert their own BR hacks and mods to reflect the new evolution. We understand your concern with deep evolutions, but believe this is for the best as none of our current customers still use BR for embedded appliances anymore.

What happened to the previous Beamreactor website contents and forums?

With the recent evolutions, CSS or security related, we couldn't keep outdated content. We believe it is time to build a more up to date content, with your help. A copy of the previous Beamreactor web will be made available for the ones of you that decides to stick to XDP 1.0.

Thank you again for your fidelity and support,

Treveur Bretaudiere, Beamreactor CEO
